Matthew Mandala is a Las Vegas artist, live performer, and community builder known for transforming ordinary spray paint into detailed original artwork—often in a matter of minutes and in full view of an audience.
Over the past decade, Matthew has created and sold more than 60,000 paintings, with artwork reaching collectors in 64 countries. Through VegasSprays, live performances, and online broadcasts, he has built his practice around something increasingly rare in art: allowing people to experience the creation itself.
THE JOURNEY
Uncertainty is part of the excitement.
Matthew often begins with a blank surface without knowing exactly where the painting will end. He experiments, reacts, takes risks, and allows the piece to reveal itself as he works. For him, the uncertainty is part of the excitement. The journey matters as much as the finished painting.
People watching live can hear his thoughts, suggest colors or ideas, ask questions, and sometimes influence where a painting goes next. Meanwhile, viewers interact with one another, turning the process into something communal rather than simply artist and audience.
Because of that, collectors receive more than a finished piece of art. They remember watching it come to life. They remember the conversations, unexpected decisions, and moments surrounding its creation. The painting becomes connected to a shared experience and shared memory.
That idea of connection runs throughout Matthew’s work.
THE ASTRONAUT
A symbol of something deeply human.
One of his most recognizable symbols is the astronaut. To Matthew, the astronaut represents both himself and everyone else. We are all explorers moving through an uncertain world—learning, falling, adapting, searching, and reaching toward one another as we enter places we have never been before.
His astronauts may be traveling alone, discovering strange worlds, reaching toward a friend or lover, or drifting apart while trying to maintain a connection. Each painting becomes its own small universe, while the astronaut becomes a reflection of something deeply human: our curiosity, vulnerability, isolation, resilience, and desire to belong.

COMMUNITY
Invited into the creative process.
Community is equally central to Matthew’s larger vision. From live streams and collector communities such as the Portal Club to workshops, collaborative events, parties, and future immersive art experiences, he wants to break down the invisible wall between artist and audience.
His goal is not simply to have people watch creativity happen. He wants them to feel invited into it.
That philosophy comes from something Matthew believes many people lose as they grow older.
STAY CURIOUS
Curiosity does not have an expiration date.
As children, we could look at the stars and imagine becoming almost anything. Astronaut. Artist. Musician. Inventor. Explorer. Our ideas could be enormous because we had not yet learned all the reasons they supposedly wouldn’t work.
Then life gets louder. Responsibilities, expectations, environments, institutions, and other people’s opinions begin shaping what seems realistic. Somewhere along the way, that limitless curiosity can become quieter.
Matthew never wants to stop searching for it.
Endlessly curious and constantly experimenting, he sees creativity as a way of exploring both the world and ourselves. Through his art, travels, performances, ideas, and community, he hopes to encourage other people to reconnect with that part of themselves—to make something simply because they want to make it, think outside the box, take the trip, buy the ticket, follow the strange idea, and occasionally take the leap before knowing exactly where it will lead.

As his work continues to evolve, Matthew’s ambition reaches beyond the spray-painted space scenes that first made him recognizable. He is developing new concepts, symbols, formats, experiences, and bodies of work with one long-term goal: creating art with a visual identity so personal and distinct that it can only be described as a Matthew Mandala original.
More than anything, Matthew wants his work and life to come from heart. He wants to lift people up, celebrate their successes, encourage their ideas, and remind them that curiosity does not have an expiration date.
If someone encounters his work and walks away wanting to paint, draw, write, build, travel, explore, make something for someone they love, or finally begin an idea they have been carrying around for years, then Matthew considers that part of the artwork too.
